Golf legend Tiger Woods remains uncertain about his participation in the upcoming Players Championship, admitting that his “heart is really not into practising” following the recent passing of his mother.
The 15-time major winner has played sparingly in recent years due to injuries, and his latest absence came at the Genesis Invitational in February, where he withdrew after the personal loss.
⛳ Woods Struggling to Refocus on Golf
Woods, 49, participated in a TGL event on Monday night, where his team, Jupiter Links GC, was eliminated. Speaking to Sports Illustrated, he revealed that he has barely touched his clubs since his mother’s passing.
“This is the third time I’ve touched a club since my mom passed, so I haven’t really gotten into it,” Woods said.
“My heart is really not into practising right now. I’ve had so many other things to do with the Tour and trying to do other things.”
Woods added that he will reconsider his playing schedule once he feels ready to return.
⏳ Time Running Out for Players Championship Decision
Players must commit to the Players Championship by Friday afternoon, with the tournament scheduled for March 13-16 at TPC Sawgrass.
Woods has not played a PGA Tour event since the 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon and last underwent back surgery in September, marking his sixth procedure in the past decade.
This year is also the final time Woods is automatically exempt for the Players Championship under his 2019 Masters victory.
🏌️♂️ What’s Next for Woods?
As one of the most iconic figures in golf, Woods’ absence would be a significant blow to the Players Championship. However, given his injuries and personal struggles, his priority remains on recovery—both physically and mentally.
Fans and the golf world will eagerly await his decision in the coming days.
